Te mapa
Fort Cavazos is a US Army installation in Central Texas, next to the city of Killeen. It was known as Fort Hood from 1942 until 2023, when it was renamed for General Richard E. Cavazos, a Korean War veteran who became the Army's first Hispanic four-star general. By area, it is one of the largest military installations in the country.
The map makes the post's two parts very clear. The main cantonment is densely built, with barracks, motor pools, family housing and airfields laid out along long straight roads. Beyond it, training ranges spread for miles across open Central Texas terrain, crossed by only a few tracks.
Belton Lake borders the installation to the east, and the post's edges run straight into the neighborhoods of Killeen and Copperas Cove. A Fort Cavazos map poster records a place that many soldiers and families have called home for a few years at a time, often a first posting remembered long afterward.
The built-up heart of the post is a regular pattern of streets, housing areas and large service blocks, one of the most orderly street layouts in the region.
Much of the installation is range land with very few roads. On the poster that becomes a wide, quiet space that shows the sheer scale of the post.
The reservoir's branching coves form an intricate edge along the east side of the installation and add strong water shapes to the composition.
