Te mapa
Fort Hunt is a residential community in Fairfax County, Virginia, south of Alexandria on the western bank of the Potomac River. It has no traditional downtown; the map instead shows winding roads and cul-de-sacs set among trees, with the broad river forming the eastern edge and small creeks cutting valleys down toward it.
Along the river runs the George Washington Memorial Parkway, a scenic road that follows the curve of the Potomac to Mount Vernon, George Washington's estate just to the south. Fort Hunt Park, next to the parkway, preserves the site of a coastal fort from the 1890s.
During the Second World War the same site hosted a secret interrogation centre for captured German prisoners, known by its postal code, P.O. Box 1116. A Fort Hunt map poster shows a quiet, green corner of northern Virginia defined by the river, the parkway and the curving streets in between.
The river forms a wide open edge along the east of the map, its bank lined with woodland and small inlets where creeks flow in from the neighbourhoods above.
The George Washington Memorial Parkway follows the shoreline in a long, smooth curve toward Mount Vernon, a graceful line that sets the map's eastern edge.
A wooded park beside the parkway occupies the site of a nineteenth-century fort that later served as a secret wartime interrogation centre.
