Te mapa
Fresnillo is on the high central plateau of Mexico in Zacatecas state, at more than two thousand metres above sea level. The city spreads across fairly level ground, and on a map its centre is a dense grid of colonial-era blocks. Around it, newer districts extend outward in less regular patterns toward the surrounding dry countryside.
The city owes its existence to silver. Mining began in the sixteenth century on the Cerro de Proaño, the hill beside the town, and the area is still one of the most important silver-producing districts in the world. The mining company that works there takes its name from the city.
A Fresnillo map poster shows the orderly historic centre, the main roads toward Zacatecas and Durango and the rise of the mining hill at the edge of the built-up area. Where the streets thin out, the open plateau takes over. The result is a clean, strong composition in which the urban grid and industrial past are both visible.
The hill beside the city has been mined for silver since the colonial period, and its presence at the edge of town is part of Fresnillo's identity.
The historic centre follows a regular pattern of blocks and squares, typical of Spanish colonial towns, and forms the densest part of the map.
Beyond the edges of the city, the land opens into wide, dry plateau crossed by highways, giving the urban shape a clear, isolated outline.

Koteā ko Fresnillo
Fresnillo is home to generations of mining families, and to many people who later moved away to other parts of Mexico or the United States. A map of its streets keeps that origin present in a quiet way.
You can personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, in Spanish or English. Five styles are available: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand suits the high, dry plateau landscape particularly well.
