Fubang lies in the south-west of Yunnan province in China, in a subtropical region of steep hills, narrow valleys and terraced slopes not far from the border with Myanmar. The terrain shapes the town's map. The built-up area gathers on the more level ground, and roads leave it by following valleys and ridges instead of taking direct lines across the land.
