Te mapa
Fukushima, the capital of Fukushima Prefecture, sits in a broad basin in the southern part of the Tohoku region. The Abukuma River runs north through it and collects smaller rivers that come down from the Azuma mountains to the west. On the map the city spreads across the flat valley floor and stops where the slopes begin.
Near the centre rises Shinobuyama, a small forested hill that stands like an island among the streets. The Tohoku Shinkansen passes through the heart of the city. Further out the dense blocks give way to orchards, because the basin is one of Japan's best-known fruit-growing areas, especially for peaches.
Hot-spring towns lie at the edges of the basin, Iizaka to the north and Tsuchiyu in the mountains to the west. A Fukushima map poster records the everyday geography of a regional capital: a river, a hill, a station and the fields around them. It shows the city itself rather than the single event its name often brings to mind elsewhere.
This compact wooded hill in the middle of the city is drawn as an irregular open shape surrounded by streets. It is one of the clearest landmarks on the poster.
The river flows north across the basin in wide loops and is joined by tributaries from the western mountains. It gives the map its main organising line.
To the west, the grid thins into orchards and mountain roads climbing toward the Azuma range. The poster shows the city sitting in its landscape rather than filling the frame.

Koteā ko Fukushima
For anyone who studied, worked or grew up in Fukushima, the map gives a quiet, affectionate view of a city with a strong sense of place: the river walks, the hill, the orchards in blossom. A date in the subtitle can mark a move, a reunion or a return.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are all editable. There are five styles to choose from, including the soft tones of Paper and the darker Noir. HD files cost $9 and come as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF in six sizes, with no watermark.
