Te mapa
Fuzhou lies in a basin near the mouth of the Min River, surrounded by hills and mountains on almost every side. The river curves through the southern part of the city and divides around Nantai Island, so on a map the water appears as two channels enclosing a large urban island. North of the river, the old centre fills the space between smaller hills.
The historic core is best known for Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, a district of parallel lanes and courtyard houses whose pattern still reads clearly among wider modern streets. Nearby, West Lake park opens a patch of water in the grid, and to the east Gu Shan, Drum Mountain, rises above the suburbs with its old monastery on the slopes.
A Fuzhou map poster shows the capital of Fujian as it really fits its landscape: a city contained by high ground and shaped by a large river. Fuzhou is also known as the banyan city, a name that comes from the banyan trees planted along its streets since the Song dynasty and still giving the place its shaded character.

A preserved pattern of narrow parallel lanes in the old centre, one of the clearest surviving examples of a traditional street layout in a large Chinese city.
High ground surrounds the basin, so the dense streets stop against green slopes on nearly every edge of the map, with Gu Shan the most prominent height to the east.

Koteā ko Fuzhou
Fuzhou is a map for people who know it from the inside: families from Fujian, students, and the many overseas communities with roots in the city. The river and its island make a composition that is both personal and visually strong.
