Galátsi Map Poster & Print

Galátsi is a municipality in the northern part of the Athens urban area, bordering the city itself. It is almost entirely built up, and its map is a close weave of residential streets. The edges are what make it distinct: the rocky Tourkovounia hills rise on one side, and wooded parkland lies along another.

The street pattern adapts to the slopes. Straight blocks cover the flatter ground, while curved roads bend around the hills and end where the terrain gets too steep to build on. Main avenues cross the district and link it to central Athens and the neighbouring suburbs.

Galátsi hosted events at the 2004 Athens Olympics in the Galatsi Olympic Hall, which was built for table tennis and rhythmic gymnastics. A Galátsi map poster shows a typical Athenian neighbourhood of apartment blocks and small squares, with open hills close by.

01

Tourkovounia hills

The rocky ridge leaves a large unbuilt area on the map. Streets break off around it, and its outline stands out clearly against the dense city.

02

Olympic Hall

The large 2004 Olympic venue is a big footprint within the fine grain of the residential streets.

03

Tight street weave

Short blocks and narrow streets fill almost every available space. They create a dense, fine texture typical of the Athens suburbs.
