Te mapa
Genet is in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, on the high plateau west of Addis Ababa. From above, the landscape is open and rolling, at altitudes where the air is cool and the fields green in the rainy season. The town is organised along a main road, with a denser centre of streets near it and scattered homesteads and paths spreading out into the farmland.
Towns on the plateau around the capital have grown quickly as roads improved and people moved closer to Addis Ababa. The map reflects that growth: a clear main axis, newer blocks of streets on either side, and a looser pattern beyond, where tracks follow the terrain between fields, streams and small patches of eucalyptus.
A Genet map poster is simple and honest: a line of road, a cluster of streets, and a wide field of paths. In black and white, it has a sketch-like quality, with the dense centre gradually dissolving into the open highland. It is a portrait of a real, working place rather than a famous one.
The town lines up along a main road, which runs through the centre as the longest straight feature on the map. Most other streets branch off it.
Newer streets on either side of the road form rough rectangular blocks. They mark where the town has expanded outward from its original core.
Beyond the built-up area, footpaths and tracks wander between fields and streams. They give the edges of the map an organic, branching texture.
