Te mapa
Germering lies directly west of Munich and is the largest town in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck. It was formed in 1978 when the former villages of Germering and Unterpfaffenhofen merged. On a map the two old centres can still be traced, now joined by postwar housing into a continuous, evenly spread town.
The S-Bahn line runs east to west through the town, and its stations connect residents to central Munich in a short ride. The streets around it mix straight residential blocks with curving estates, and schools, sports grounds and small parks are scattered between them. Along the edges, farmland and woodland mark where the town ends and the countryside begins.
A Germering map poster shows a particular kind of place: a well-ordered commuter town that still keeps traces of its village origins. In black and white, the rail line, the old centres and the tidy residential streets create a balanced, calm composition, typical of the towns around the Bavarian capital.
The railway crosses the town from east to west in a strong, straight line, with stations that link Germering directly to central Munich.
The historic cores of Germering and Unterpfaffenhofen, merged in 1978, can still be picked out as small, irregular knots within the later street pattern.
Fields and woodland border the town, leaving wide open areas on the print that contrast with the neat pattern of residential streets.
