Te mapa
Hintertux Glacier sits at the head of the Tux valley, a side branch of the Zillertal in Tyrol. On a map the valley road runs past Lanersbach and Madseit and ends at the small hamlet of Hintertux. From there a series of lifts climbs toward the glacier beneath the Olperer, one of the highest peaks of the Zillertal Alps.
It is known as the only ski area in Austria open every day of the year, with lifts reaching about 3,250 metres. Beneath the pistes lies the Natur Eis Palast, a natural crevasse and ice cave that visitors can enter. As elsewhere in the Alps, the glacier has retreated in recent decades, but it still carries year-round skiing.
A Hintertux Glacier map poster tells a clear vertical story. The valley road and villages sit in the lower part of the frame, the lift lines rise steeply above them, and the glacier and ridges fill the top with open, quiet space. It suits anyone who skied here in summer or trained on these slopes.
The hamlet of Hintertux marks the end of the valley road. Parking areas and lift stations gather here at the foot of the steep climb toward the glacier.
A chain of lift sections rises in stages from the valley toward the upper slopes. The clear line it forms leads the eye from the base up to the ice.
Settlements such as Lanersbach line the road down the valley toward the Zillertal, adding small street clusters and a winding stream to the lower half of the map.
