Te mapa
Gotō is a city in Nagasaki Prefecture that covers most of the southern Gotō Islands in the East China Sea, off the western coast of Kyushu. Its centre is Fukue, on the largest island, where the harbour, ferry terminal and the remains of Fukue Castle sit close together along the waterfront.
The islands are known for their long association with Japan's Hidden Christians, who practised their faith in secret during the period of prohibition. Several churches and villages in the area, including sites on Hisaka Island, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Hidden Christian sites in the Nagasaki region.
A Gotō map poster is above all a map of coastline. The islands are edged with coves, bays and headlands, and the composition shows the small town grid of Fukue against a landscape of sea, hills and scattered villages connected by winding roads.
The main port and town centre wrap around a sheltered harbour, where ferries arrive from Nagasaki and the castle grounds lie close to the water.
Bays and headlands give the islands a jagged outline, creating a detailed, intricate border between land and sea across the whole map.
Low volcanic hills, including the grass-covered cone of Mount Onidake near Fukue, rise behind the town and shape the roads around them.

Koteā ko Gotō
Gotō is a place people visit on pilgrimage, for its churches and coastline, or return to as home. A map of the islands makes a considered keepsake of that journey, and the coastline alone makes a striking image.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with the name of an island or a date. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, as a $9 download in six sizes or a printed poster.
