Te mapa
Guarantã do Norte lies in the far north of Mato Grosso, close to the border with Pará, on the BR-163 highway that runs from the centre of Brazil toward the Amazon. The town was founded in the 1980s as part of a colonisation project, and on a map its origin as a planned settlement is clear: a regular grid set beside a long highway.
The surrounding land was once dense forest and is now a mix of pasture, farms and remaining woodland, divided into long rectangular properties. A Guarantã do Norte map poster shows that pattern: the town's orderly blocks, the highway running straight through the region, and the geometric land divisions that extend far beyond the town.
In black and white, the map reads almost like a diagram of frontier settlement. The grid is broad and regular, side roads leave the highway at right angles, and the empty space around them hints at the scale of the landscape. It is a clear picture of a young town in a vast region.
The highway runs straight past the town. It is the main connection to the rest of Brazil and the strongest single line on the map.
Founded as a colonisation settlement, the town follows a regular grid of wide streets and square blocks laid out from the start.
Around the town, long rectangular rural properties and side roads divide the land into a geometric pattern typical of Amazon frontier settlement.
