Te mapa
Guayaramerín sits in the far north of Bolivia's Beni Department, on the west bank of the Mamoré River. On a map the river is the main feature, a broad band running along the town's edge, and the Brazilian town of Guajará-Mirim lies directly opposite. Boats cross between the two, so one short stretch of water is both the border and the connection.
Away from the river the town is laid out as a fairly regular grid of blocks, and the streets thin out into lowland country of forest, pasture and wetland. In this part of the Amazon basin the rivers and the seasonal flooding decide where settlement goes, and the map shows it: roads are few and the water sets the shape.
A Guayaramerín map poster suits anyone who knows this corner of the continent, where travel still often means waiting at a landing. The bank opposite, the grid behind it and the river between them make a composition that is simple, balanced and particular to this place.
The wide river runs along the town's eastern edge and forms the frontier with Brazil. It is the largest single shape on the print and anchors the whole layout.
Guajará-Mirim stands on the far bank, so the poster can take in two countries at once, with the ferry landings facing each other across the water.
Behind the riverfront, straight streets form an orderly grid before giving way to open Beni lowlands. The regular blocks contrast with the loose curves of the river.

Koteā ko Guayaramerín
A map of Guayaramerín is a reminder of a real frontier, where two countries sit within sight of each other. It works for people with family on either bank, and for travellers who came through on the way to or from the Amazon.
