Te mapa
Guinguinéo is a town in the Kaolack region of central Senegal, in the flat groundnut basin that has long been the centre of the country's farming. It grew as a railway town: here the branch line to Kaolack leaves the main Dakar–Niger railway, and the junction shaped the town's development.
From above, the railway lines are the clearest element on the map, meeting and diverging near the centre. The streets form a fairly regular grid around them, with the station area as a natural focus. Beyond town, the landscape is flat and open, with roads and tracks crossing fields towards nearby villages.
For much of the twentieth century, groundnuts from the surrounding area travelled by rail through junctions like this one towards the coast. A Guinguinéo map poster keeps the lines of that history visible: the railway junction, the grid around it and the wide, flat country beyond.

The flat, farmed country of central Senegal surrounds the town, leaving calm open space on the map around the streets.
