Te mapa
Hachinohe lies on the Pacific coast in the southeastern part of Aomori prefecture, at the northern end of Honshu. It is one of Japan's major fishing ports, and the map shows this clearly. The harbour spreads along the coast with long breakwaters, quays and basins, while the Mabechi River flows into the sea through the northern part of the city.
The city centre is located inland from the port, with a compact street grid around the main shopping area. Residential areas extend across the surrounding plain and low hills. Near the harbour, the small island of Kabushima is connected to the mainland and is known for its large colony of black-tailed gulls and its shrine.
To the south, the Tanesashi coast runs along a stretch of rocky shore and grassland. Hachinohe is also known for its morning markets and for the Sansha Taisai festival held each summer. A Hachinohe map poster shows the harbour, the river mouth and the city grid set against the open Pacific.

This small island near the harbour, home to a shrine and a large colony of black-tailed gulls, appears as a distinct shape on the coast.
The river flows through the northern part of the city to the sea, forming a clear line that divides districts and meets the harbour.
