Te mapa
Half Way Tree is the administrative centre of Saint Andrew Parish and one of the main commercial hubs of uptown Kingston. On the map it is a meeting point: several major roads converge at a triangular square, and the surrounding blocks are dense with shops, offices and transport terminals.
The name comes from a large cotton tree that once stood here, roughly halfway between Kingston and the hills. Today a clock tower marks the square, and the area is a major bus hub. A Half Way Tree map poster shows how strongly the roads pull towards this single junction.
North of the square the street grid loosens into residential neighbourhoods, and the land begins to rise towards the foothills of the Blue Mountains. The map moves from dense crossroads to quieter suburbs within a few blocks.
Several main roads meet at Half Way Tree's square, forming a star-shaped intersection that sits at the heart of the composition.
The small triangular square with its clock tower marks the spot of the original cotton tree and remains the area's recognised centre.
North of the junction, the streets become more spacious and curving as they head into residential areas and towards the rising foothills.
