Tama River edge
The river forms the city's western boundary, a broad pale band of water, gravel bars and riverside green that gives the poster a strong natural edge against the tight residential grid.

Te mapa
Hamura sits on the western edge of the Tokyo plain, where the Okutama hills start to give way to flat river terraces. From above it is a slender strip of housing blocks and small factories set against the Tama River along its western side. The JR Ome Line cuts a steady diagonal through the town, and small clusters of denser streets gather around its stations.
The city is best known as the starting point of the Tamagawa Aqueduct, dug in the 1650s to carry river water to Edo. On a map the channel is a thin line that leaves the river at the intake weir and heads east across the terraces. It is a quiet piece of engineering that still shapes the streets on either side of it.
A Hamura map poster reduces all of this to line work: the wide band of the river, the fine thread of the aqueduct, the railway and the small-lot residential streets typical of suburban Tokyo. In black and white, the open riverbank set against the crowded blocks becomes the core of the composition, calm on one side and finely textured on the other.
The river forms the city's western boundary, a broad pale band of water, gravel bars and riverside green that gives the poster a strong natural edge against the tight residential grid.
At the Hamura intake weir the Tamagawa Aqueduct leaves the river, the beginning of a channel built in the seventeenth century to supply Edo. Its route runs east across town like a pencil stroke.
The JR Ome Line crosses the city on a steady diagonal. Station areas form small knots of denser streets that break up the otherwise even texture of the suburbs.

Koteā ko Hamura
Hamura suits people who grew up in the Tama valley or once lived on Tokyo's western fringe, and anyone who likes places where the history of water is written into the plan. The pairing of river and aqueduct stays legible even at the smallest print size.
You can set your own title and subtitle, add a date such as a move or a wedding, and edit the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint makes the aqueduct look like the engineering drawing it once was.
