Te mapa
Hayashino lies in the Mimasaka area of northeastern Okayama Prefecture, among the forested hills of the Chūgoku region. The land here is mostly steep and wooded, so the town occupies the valley floor, where the flat ground allows houses, rice fields and roads to share the space.
On the map the settlement stretches along the valley, following the river and the railway line that runs through it. Streets run parallel to the water, crossed by short lanes and small bridges. At the edges, the flat ground gives way quickly to rising contours and forest, and paddy fields fill the gaps between groups of houses.
This part of Okayama is known more for hot springs and mountain scenery than for large towns, and Hayashino fits that quiet rural pattern. A Hayashino map poster records the way Japanese valley towns are built: a narrow strip of settlement held between hillsides, with water and rail running through the middle.
The town is laid out along a narrow valley floor. On the poster this gives it a long, stretched shape framed by empty wooded slopes.
A river runs through the settlement, crossed at intervals by small bridges. It is the main natural line on the map, and nearby streets follow its course.
Rice fields fill the flat land between houses and hills. Their small rectangular plots add a fine, regular pattern around the built-up areas.
