Te mapa
Heerhugowaard stands on land that used to be water. The polder of the same name was drained in the seventeenth century, and its map still shows that origin. Long straight roads and drainage ditches run in parallel across the flat land, and the town has grown on top of this rational grid, with newer districts filling the spaces between the old lines.
The town sits just east of Alkmaar in North Holland. In 2022 it merged with Langedijk to form the municipality of Dijk en Waard. One of its best-known neighbourhoods is the Stad van de Zon, the City of the Sun, a district planned around solar energy. Its rooftop panels and surrounding lakes and parks made it a reference point for sustainable housing.
A Heerhugowaard map poster is a study in Dutch landscape engineering. Straight polder lines set the underlying rhythm, and the curving streets of newer housing sit within that frame. Water is present as ditches, canals and ponds rather than as a coastline. The result is a calm, orderly composition, very much in keeping with the country that drew it.

The solar-powered district, surrounded by water and green space, stands out as a distinct planned area on the map, with lakes around its edges.
To the west the town meets the Alkmaar area, and a wider frame shows how the polder settlement links to the older city and its canals.

Koteā ko Heerhugowaard
Heerhugowaard appeals to people who grew up in the polder, to families who moved into a new neighbourhood here, and to anyone who likes Dutch landscape design. The geometric lines look clean and modern on the wall.
Put your street, family name or moving date in the title and subtitle, and keep or adjust the coordinates line. Switch between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand until the polder lines feel right.
