Te mapa
Hemer lies on the northern edge of the Sauerland, where the hills of the region begin to rise out of the Ruhr lowlands. The town is made up of several districts joined along valleys, so there is no single compact centre. On a map the streets stretch out in fingers between wooded slopes, with forest pushing into the gaps.
Hemer is known for the Felsenmeer, a field of weathered limestone boulders in the woods that is protected as a geotope, and for the Heinrichshöhle, a show cave. In 2010 the town hosted a state garden show on the site of former barracks, which became the Sauerlandpark. During the Second World War those same grounds held the prisoner-of-war camp Stalag VI A.
A Hemer map poster shows a town that has grown into its landscape rather than over it. The bands of housing along the valleys, the dark mass of forest and the open shape of the park give the sheet a layered, varied rhythm.

The forest south of the centre holds the famous rock field, an area left largely without streets on the map.
Separate neighbourhoods stretch along valley floors and meet in the middle, giving the town its branching, irregular outline.

Koteā ko Hemer
The map appeals to people who grew up among these valleys and woods, and to anyone who has walked the Felsenmeer or spent a summer day in the park. It shows how closely the town lives alongside the forest.
Add your own title, a subtitle with a name or date, and keep or change the coordinates. There are five styles to choose from: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Classic black & white keeps the valleys crisp.
