Te mapa
Hirakawa is a city in Aomori Prefecture, formed in 2006 from the towns of Hiraka and Onoe and the village of Ikarigaseki. It lies south of Hirosaki at the southern edge of the Tsugaru Plain, and its map covers a long area that moves from flat farmland in the north to mountains near the border with Akita.
In the north, the plain is divided into rice paddies and apple orchards, the region's two main crops, with small towns built along roads and rail lines. Heading south, the land narrows into a river valley, the Ikarigaseki area, known for its hot springs, before reaching wooded mountains with only a few roads.
A Hirakawa map poster shows this full change in landscape. The northern part is full of field divisions and village streets, while the south becomes much emptier, with roads following the valley. In Onoe, the Seibien garden is a local landmark. The drawing has an unusual, layered quality.

Toward Ikarigaseki the land narrows into a valley, with the road and river running together between wooded hills toward the Akita border.
Hiraka, Onoe and Ikarigaseki each keep a denser centre, visible on the map as separate clusters of streets within the larger city.
