Te mapa
Hulunbuir is a vast prefecture-level city in the northeast of Inner Mongolia, bordering Russia and Mongolia, and its urban centre is Hailar. The town lies in the valley of the Hailar River, where the Yimin River joins it, so its map is shaped by channels, oxbows and floodplain wetlands threading between the districts.
The older part of Hailar sits close to the rivers, while newer districts with broad avenues and large blocks spread across the surrounding higher ground. Bridges cross the floodplain at several points, and beyond the last streets the landscape opens into rolling steppe, some of the best-known grassland in China.
The region takes its name from Hulun Lake and Buir Lake, two large lakes to the southwest near the Mongolian border. Winters here are long and cold, and the grasslands draw most visitors in summer. A Hulunbuir map poster centres on Hailar and the river confluence that defines the city, a compact settlement surrounded by open plains.
The Hailar and Yimin rivers meet near the city, their braided channels and floodplain creating a network of curving lines across the centre of the map.
Oxbows, marshes and side channels spread across the valley floor, giving the map an organic texture that contrasts with the straight streets on higher ground.
Beyond the built-up area, the steppe begins almost immediately, so the city appears as a well-defined shape against open land crossed by only a few roads.
