Te mapa
Huntington stretches along the south bank of the Ohio River, close to where West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky meet. Collis P. Huntington founded the city in 1871 as the western terminus of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. Its map still shows that planned origin: a long, regular grid of numbered streets and avenues running parallel to the river.
The grid is bounded by water to the north and hills to the south, which gives the city its long, narrow shape. A floodwall built after the great flood of 1937 runs along the riverfront, and bridges carry roads across to Ohio. Ritter Park, with its well-known rose garden, adds a green curve to the southern edge of the streets.
Huntington is home to Marshall University, whose campus sits within the grid just east of downtown, and to rail yards that recall why the city was founded. A Huntington map poster shows it all at once, from the river and the grid to the campus and the wooded ridges that close in to the south.
The river forms the whole northern edge of the city. Its broad, gentle curve sets the orientation of every street on the map.
Streets and avenues cross at right angles across the flat valley floor. The planned, railroad-era layout reads clearly and confidently from above.
The university grounds sit inside the grid east of downtown. The distinct block of quads and buildings is often the first thing former students look for.

Koteā ko Huntington
Huntington means a great deal to Marshall graduates, to families with long roots in the Tri-State area and to anyone who grew up along the river. The grid and the Ohio make it unmistakable, and the poster gives those lines room.
Change the title to a class year, a family name or a street, write a short subtitle, and keep or edit the coordinates. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir works well for a river city.
