Te mapa
Idanre in Ondo State sits among some of the most dramatic landscape in south-western Nigeria. Huge granite domes, or inselbergs, rise steeply out of the forest. On a map, the modern town spreads along the roads in the valley, and the massive hills appear as dense, curving contour lines and large open areas.
High on the hills is Oke Idanre, the old town where people lived for centuries before moving down to the plain in the twentieth century. It is reached by a long stairway of several hundred steps. The old palace, shrines and houses remain up there, surrounded by rock, forest and grassland.
The Idanre Hills are on Nigeria's tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage status because of their natural and cultural value. An Idanre map poster shows the relationship between the two towns, with streets in the valley and a settlement in the hills, set against one of the country's most unusual terrains.

The old hilltop town is reached by a long stairway. Its palace and shrines are still in place, high above the modern streets.
The present town follows the roads at the foot of the hills. Its streets sit in a clear contrast with the rugged ground above.

An Idanre map is a strong piece for anyone with roots in Ondo State or memories of climbing the steps to the old town. The contrast between hills and streets makes it one of the more striking compositions in the whole collection.
