Te mapa
Igarapé Miri lies in the northeastern part of Pará, in the lower Tocantins region of the Amazon estuary, and its map is dominated by water. The town stands on the bank of a river, and beyond its compact grid of streets the landscape splinters into creeks, channels and islands that rise and fall with the tides. The name itself comes from igarapé, the regional word for a small forest waterway.
Much of the municipality is reached by boat rather than by road, and riverside communities are scattered along the channels, their houses built on stilts or close to the water's edge. On paper this creates a composition of branching, organic lines, with the small urban core as a dense knot at one bank and the waterways spreading outward like veins.
Igarapé Miri is one of Brazil's leading producers of açaí, the palm fruit harvested from the flooded forests along the rivers, and the town calls itself the world capital of açaí. An Igarapé Miri map poster captures that close relationship between people, river and forest, setting the small town against its maze of channels in a clear monochrome pattern.
Creeks and channels thread through the forest in every direction, their branching courses filling the poster with delicate lines shaped by the rise and fall of estuary tides.
The compact street grid of the town sits against the river bank, a dense, orderly patch that contrasts sharply with the organic waterways around it.
Low forested islands between the channels are home to the açaí palms that support much of the local economy, appearing as soft shapes enclosed by water.

Koteā ko Igarapé Miri
For families from the lower Tocantins, this map is a portrait of home drawn in rivers rather than roads. It also appeals to anyone drawn to the Amazon, since few places show so clearly how water organises daily life.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates to mark a family name or a date, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint works especially well with so much water. Download the HD files for $9 or order a matte print.
