Te mapa
Inashiki lies in southern Ibaraki, on low, very flat land between Lake Kasumigaura and the Tone River, one of Japan's largest rivers. On a map water sets the frame: the lake's shoreline bends along one side, the broad river runs along another, and drainage channels cut straight lines through the land in between.
Much of the area is rice paddy, divided into regular rectangular fields, which gives the map a precise, grid-like texture. Settlements form small clusters along roads and on slightly higher ground, rather than one large centre. Newer housing and industrial areas spread along the main routes.
The city was formed in 2005 by merging several towns and villages, which explains its scattered pattern. It lies within reach of Narita Airport and Tokyo, yet looks rural from above. An Inashiki map poster shows the ordered landscape of Japan's lowlands, where water and rice fields define everything.
The shoreline of Japan's second-largest lake forms a soft edge to the map, contrasting with the straight lines of the fields.
The broad river and its embankments run along the southern side, drawing a strong, flowing line across the composition.
Regular rectangular rice fields cover the flat land. Their fine grid gives the poster a calm, precise texture.
