Te mapa
Indramayu lies on the north coast of West Java, facing the Java Sea. The land around it is almost perfectly flat. The Cimanuk River and its channels have built a wide delta here over centuries, and the town's roads and canals are laid across a landscape of paddy fields and coastal fishponds.
The regency is one of Java's major rice-growing areas, and fishing is important along the coast. It is also known for its mangoes. The state oil company's Balongan refinery lies a short distance to the northwest. The town itself is a modest regional centre, with streets gathered around a central square and the main roads.
An Indramayu map poster shows a compact centre, irrigation and river channels running across the plain, and a coastline that shifts gradually between land and water. The flatness of the ground gives the map a quiet, horizontal feel, very different from Java's volcanic interior.
The river and its branches cross the delta towards the sea. Their lines weave through the town and fields, and they define the map's structure.
Towards the Java Sea the land is divided into ponds with straight banks. They form a fine geometric pattern along the shoreline.
The streets gather tightly around the central square and main roads. This dense core stands out against the wide agricultural plain around it.
