Jakobstad, or Pietarsaari in Finnish, is a coastal town in Ostrobothnia on the Gulf of Bothnia. Most of its residents speak Swedish as their first language. The town was founded in 1652 by Ebba Brahe and named after her late husband, the military commander Jacob De la Gardie. From above, a regular town plan sits beside a complicated coastline of bays, inlets and low islands.
North of the centre lies Skata, one of the best-preserved districts of wooden houses in Finland. It is made up of narrow streets lined with painted timber homes that once belonged to sailors and workers. The centre follows a rational grid of wide streets. Toward the sea, harbour basins, industrial sites and the offshore archipelago draw the line work outward into the water.
A Jakobstad map poster places that orderly grid next to an irregular shore. Straight streets meet a coastline that the slow rise of the land after the Ice Age is still reshaping. Small islands scatter across the sea side of the sheet. The result is a balanced composition that suits the town's calm Nordic character.

The centre is laid out in regular rectangular blocks. This gives the map a strong, legible core that contrasts with the organic coastline around it.
Low islands and skerries lie offshore. They break the water into many small shapes and extend the composition out to sea.

Koteā ko Jakobstad
The map suits people from Jakobstad, members of the Finland-Swedish community and anyone who has sailed these coastal waters. The mix of grid and shoreline also makes it a good fit for Nordic interiors.
You can set the title in Finnish or Swedish, add a subtitle or a meaningful date, and edit the coordinates. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The HD files cost $9 in six sizes, and printed posters are also available.
