Te mapa
Jinhua grew up where rivers meet in the Jinqu basin of central Zhejiang. The waterways that join here give the centre its shape. Channels divide the land into sections, and the bridges stitch them back together. The older districts sit close to the water, while newer neighbourhoods and industrial zones spread out across the flatter land.
North of the city rise the forested slopes of Mount Jinhua, known for its caves and Taoist sites. Jinhua is also known across China for its cured ham, a regional speciality with a long tradition. The city is a rail and road junction for this part of the province, and main lines and expressways pass along its edges.
A Jinhua map poster shows these rivers as the backbone of the city. Streets orient themselves to the water, and the islands and banks form clear edges, while the northern hills give the top of the print a quieter texture. It is a city best read through its waterways, and the map makes that visible at a glance.
The rivers join near the centre of the city, forming a Y-shaped pattern of water. It divides the districts and gives the whole map its structure.
Numerous bridges cross the rivers at close intervals. They create a rhythm of short lines across the water that ties the separate banks into one city.
The wooded hills of Mount Jinhua rise beyond the northern districts. They leave open space at the top of the map, in contrast to the built-up river plain.

Koteā ko Jinhua
Jinhua is a city people come from rather than one they pass through. It is often tied to family, schooling or the first years of working life. A map of its rivers keeps that place present wherever you live now.
