Te mapa
Shaoxing sits on the flat Ningshao Plain south of Hangzhou Bay, a landscape that has been drained, dyked and canalled for more than two thousand years. On the map, water is everywhere: canals run alongside streets, rivers loop around the old town, and small lakes and ponds scatter across the surrounding districts. The historic centre still follows the pattern of a water city.
The Zhedong Canal, part of the Grand Canal World Heritage listing, passes through the city from west to east. Old neighbourhoods such as the area around Cangqiao Street keep narrow lanes lined with waterways and arched stone bridges. Beyond the core the city has grown into newer districts, including Keqiao to the west, known for its textile markets, with a wider and more regular street pattern.
Shaoxing is famous for its yellow rice wine and as the birthplace of the writer Lu Xun, whose family home is preserved in the city. The Orchid Pavilion, associated with the calligrapher Wang Xizhi, lies just outside it. A Shaoxing map poster reveals the fine web of canals and streets that makes the city unlike almost any other.

The eastern section of the Grand Canal system crosses the city from west to east, a long continuous line linking Shaoxing with Hangzhou and Ningbo.
The western district grew around one of China's largest textile markets, its street grid more regular and open than the canal-laced historic centre.

Koteā ko Shaoxing
Shaoxing's map is intricate in a way few cities are, and that detail rewards a closer look on the wall. It is a meaningful print for anyone with family roots in Zhejiang, a reader of Lu Xun, or a traveller who took a boat through its canals.
Title it with the city name or a family place, add a subtitle and edit the coordinates line. Paper and Sand bring warmth to the fine water lines, while Classic black & white keeps them sharp. The $9 files include six sizes as 300 DPI PNG and PDF.
