Te mapa
Joplin lies in the southwest corner of Missouri, close to the Kansas and Oklahoma borders. It grew quickly in the late nineteenth century as a centre of the Tri-State lead and zinc mining district, and the map still reflects a boom town: a regular grid of numbered streets organised around a long north–south Main Street.
To the south, Shoal Creek runs through a wooded valley, with Grand Falls, a wide ledge of rock across the stream, just outside town. Some of the old mining ground around the city remains visible as irregular, empty patches in the street pattern, where land was dug and later left open or turned into parks.
Joplin's history includes Route 66, which passed through the city, and a 1933 shootout involving Bonnie and Clyde. In 2011 an EF5 tornado cut across the city, and much of it was rebuilt. A Joplin map poster shows the grid that endured and recovered, drawn as one continuous, carefully balanced whole.
Main Street runs north to south through the centre of the grid, the town's traditional commercial axis and the clearest single line on the map.
South of the city, Shoal Creek winds through wooded land, its curves and the roads that follow it softening the regular grid above.
Former mining areas leave gaps and irregular shapes in the street network, a visible trace of the lead and zinc boom that built Joplin.

Koteā ko Joplin
Joplin means resilience to many people, especially those who lived through 2011 or helped rebuild. A map of the whole city, grid intact, is a strong and understated thing to keep on the wall, and a meaningful gift for family there.
Add a meaningful date to the subtitle, a neighborhood name, or just the coordinates. Blueprint suits the orderly grid, Noir gives it weight. Print sizes include 18×24″ and 24×36″, available as files or as a printed poster.
