Jōyō Map Poster & Print

Jōyō lies in the south of Kyoto Prefecture, roughly midway between Kyoto and Nara. The Kizu River runs along its western side, and the land rises gently to the east into low, wooded hills. On the map, the city fills the space between the two: residential districts on the flat ground, with farmland, tea fields and woodland toward the hills.

Two railway lines, the Kintetsu Kyoto Line and the JR Nara Line, run north to south through the city, parallel to the river, and together with the main roads they form the spine of the map. Residential neighbourhoods built from the 1960s onward fill the land between them in a mix of grid and gently curving streets.

A Jōyō map poster shows a city shaped by its position in the corridor between two historic capitals. The area is known for its plum groves, especially in the Aodani district, which bloom in early spring, and for ancient burial mounds that mark the long history of settlement in the Yamashiro basin.
