Kadungalūr lies in Ernakulam district, close to Aluva and within the wider Kochi urban region, near the Periyar River. On the map it looks very different from a compact town. Houses are spread along a web of lanes among trees and gardens, with no single dense centre, a settlement pattern found across much of central Kerala.
Water is never far away. The Periyar and its side channels run close by, and low-lying land, ponds and small watercourses appear between the residential areas. Larger roads connect the area to Aluva, to the industrial belt along the river and south toward Kochi, while smaller lanes loop and branch to reach individual homes.
