Te mapa
Kalliyasshēri is in Kannur district in northern Kerala, a short distance inland from the Arabian Sea. Like many places in Kerala, it does not have a sharply defined centre. Houses are spread along roads and paths among coconut palms and gardens, and the settlement blends into neighbouring villages and towns.
The landscape is a mix of low laterite hills, valleys with paddy fields, and rivers and backwaters close by. Roads follow ridges and valley edges, so they rarely run straight. In a Kalliyasshēri map poster, this appears as a fine web of winding lines, with water forming smooth shapes in the lower areas.
This kind of map is very different from a city grid. There are no dense blocks. Instead, there is an even, finely drawn network of roads and lanes spread over the whole frame. In black and white, it looks almost like a botanical drawing, reflecting how closely settlement and landscape are intertwined in this part of Kerala.
Houses are spread along roads and paths throughout the area rather than concentrated in a single centre. They create an even, finely detailed network.
Rivers and backwaters in the lower land form smooth, curving shapes that contrast with the fine web of roads on the higher ground.
Roads follow the edges of ridges and valleys, bending constantly. They give the map an organic, flowing appearance.
