Te mapa
Kediri lies in the valley of the Brantas, the longest river in East Java, which flows north through the middle of the city and divides it into two distinct halves. Bridges connect the eastern and western banks at regular intervals, and from above, the river's gentle curves set the rhythm of the street plan, with neighbourhoods and markets lining both sides.
Beyond the city limits the landscape rises. Mount Kelud, an active volcano, stands to the east, and its eruptions have repeatedly reshaped the land around it, while the low hills of Mount Klotok close off the western side. Between them, rice fields, sugarcane and villages fill the valley floor, and the urban grid thins out gradually into rural roads.
The name recalls the Kediri Kingdom, a Javanese state of the eleventh to thirteenth centuries remembered for its literature. Today the city is closely associated with Gudang Garam, one of Indonesia's largest makers of clove cigarettes, which has long shaped the local economy. A Kediri map poster shows the river and the surrounding valley in a quiet, legible frame.
The river runs north through the centre of Kediri, dividing it into eastern and western halves. Its curving course is the organising line of the entire map.
A series of bridges link the two sides of the city. Seen from above they give the river a measured rhythm, tying the separate street networks together.
On the western edge, the hills of Mount Klotok rise from the valley. Their slopes and curving roads form a softer edge to the regular streets of the city.

Koteā ko Kediri
Kediri is a fitting choice for people who grew up along the Brantas, who have family in East Java or who have lived in the city for work. The river through the centre gives a strong, symmetrical composition that suits framing.
