Pare lies in Kediri Regency in East Java, Indonesia, on the fertile lowland north-east of Kediri city. From above, the town is a dense network of streets and kampung lanes surrounded by rice fields, sugarcane and irrigation channels. The volcanic slopes of Mount Kelud rise not far away.
The main roads meet at a compact centre with markets and shops. The rest of the town spreads out in a close mesh of small streets and residential blocks. Villages merge into the town along the roads, so the edges of the built-up area are soft and irregular on the map.
