Khaira lies in the northern Konkan belt of Maharashtra, the low coastal strip between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea. The terrain here is mostly flat, broken by creeks, ponds and patches of cultivation. From above, the settlement appears as a loose network of lanes and clustered houses, not a single dense centre.
Roads in this part of the Konkan tend to follow field boundaries and older paths, so the street pattern is irregular and dispersed.
