Te mapa
Koch Bihār, often written Cooch Behar, lies in the far north of West Bengal, on the plains below the Himalayan foothills and close to the border with Bangladesh. It was the seat of the Koch dynasty and later of a princely state. The town was laid out deliberately, and its fairly regular grid of wide roads is still clear on the map today.
Water is part of the plan. Large rectangular tanks sit at the heart of the town, the best known being Sagar Dighi, surrounded by administrative buildings. Nearby stands the Cooch Behar Palace, built in the late nineteenth century in a European classical style within spacious grounds. The Torsa River runs close by, its braided channels spreading across a wide bed.
A Koch Bihār map poster brings out the geometry of a royal town: ruled lines, rectangular pools and the green block of the palace grounds, framed by the loose shapes of the river and farmland. It is a thoughtful gift for people from North Bengal who want a map showing how deliberately their home town was made.

The Cooch Behar Palace stands within wide landscaped grounds. They appear as a large open block among the denser surrounding streets.
The river flows past the town in a wide, braided bed. Its shifting channels give the edge of the poster soft, organic lines that contrast with the planned centre.

Koteā ko Koch Bihār
People who grew up around Sagar Dighi, or who left North Bengal for Kolkata or further, often stay deeply attached to the town's orderly streets and royal past. A map makes that attachment visible in a simple, lasting way.
