Te mapa
Kolepom Island, also known as Yos Sudarso or Dolak, lies off the south coast of Papua in Indonesia. Despite covering more than eleven thousand square kilometres, it rises only slightly above sea level. From above it looks less like a solid island and more like a delta: a low plain of swamp, grassland and mangrove, cut through by winding creeks and tidal channels.
The island is separated from the mainland by the Muli Strait, a narrow channel that looks more like a river on the map than a stretch of sea. Settlements are few and roads are almost absent, so the mapped detail comes from water rather than streets: meandering channels, lagoons and a long, gently curving coastline facing the Arafura Sea.
A Kolepom Island map poster is closer to an abstract drawing than a conventional place map. The fine branching lines of the waterways, the absence of a street grid and the soft, low coastline create a composition that feels organic and unusual. It suits anyone with a connection to southern Papua or a fondness for wild, little-known landscapes.
The narrow channel dividing the island from mainland New Guinea winds like a river rather than a strait. On the poster it traces a thin, meandering boundary between two large landmasses.
Creeks and tidal channels branch across the low interior. They are the main source of detail on the map, forming patterns that resemble roots or veins.
The seaward side of the island faces the shallow Arafura Sea in a long, smooth curve. It gives the composition a calm outer edge around the intricate interior.

Koteā ko Kolepom Island
Few people have visited Kolepom, which is part of its appeal. For those with roots in the region, or who work in its villages and waters, the map is a rare portrait of home. For others, it is simply a remarkable natural pattern to live with.
Add a title, a subtitle and your own coordinates line to make the poster personal. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand; Blueprint and Sand both suit the flowing waterways. Download a free watermarked preview first, then HD files for $9.
