Te mapa
Ambon Island lies in the Maluku Islands of eastern Indonesia, just off the southwest coast of the much larger island of Seram. Its shape is unusual: two mountainous peninsulas, Leihitu in the north and Leitimor in the south, joined only by a narrow isthmus. Between them, Ambon Bay reaches deep into the island from the west, almost cutting it in two.
The city of Ambon, capital of Maluku province, lies on the southern shore of the bay on the Leitimor peninsula. Its streets are packed between the water and steep green hills. The Merah Putih Bridge, opened in 2016, now crosses the bay and connects the city directly to the northern side, shortening a trip that once went around the head of the bay.
An Ambon Island map poster shows this almost-enclosed bay at the heart of the island. Ambon's history is tied to the spice trade, and cloves once brought Portuguese and then Dutch traders here. The Dutch built Fort Victoria near the waterfront, and the city grew around it. Coastal villages ring both peninsulas, with forested hills rising behind them.

This bridge spans the bay near the city, appearing as a straight line linking the northern and southern shores across the water.
At the head of the bay, a thin neck of land is all that connects the Leihitu and Leitimor peninsulas.

Koteā ko Ambon Island
Ambon is home for many Moluccans in Indonesia and in the diaspora in the Netherlands, and a map of the island can carry a strong sense of family and place. Its two-lobed shape is also simply beautiful as a graphic form.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a village, a family name or a meaningful date, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the bay and the surrounding sea well.
