Kotharia lies just south of Rajkot, in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, and its map is a snapshot of a city expanding outward. The original village core is still visible as a small, irregular knot of lanes. Around it, newer residential societies are laid out in tidy rectangular grids, and larger plots mark workshops and industrial units.
Rajkot is one of Gujarat's major industrial and commercial centres, and much of that growth has spread into places like Kotharia.
