Kuala Tungkal is a port town on the east coast of Sumatra, in the Jambi province of Indonesia. It is the main town of West Tanjung Jabung Regency. As its name suggests, it sits at a river mouth, where fresh water meets the tidal waters of the strait. Boats have long linked it with other ports along the coast and islands.
From above, the town is shaped by water. Streets run parallel to the river and the shoreline, with narrow lanes reaching toward the waterfront. Along the edges, the built fabric gives way to low, marshy land and mangrove. Much of this coast is flat and deeply influenced by tides.
A Kuala Tungkal map poster captures the meeting of land and water in clean line work. It shows the riverbank, the shoreline and the streets held between them. The result is a graphic portrait of a working coastal town.
The town sits where its river opens toward the sea. The widening channel becomes the dominant open shape on the poster.
Streets and lanes run toward the river and harbour. Their pattern follows the waterline, which long defined daily life and trade.
Flat, tidal land and mangrove surround the built-up area. On the map, the town's edges feel soft and closely bound to the water.
