Te mapa
Kunitachi was developed in the 1920s as an academic garden city, and its plan is still easy to read from above. Three roads fan out from the station. The central one, Daigaku-dori, runs straight south as a wide avenue lined with cherry and ginkgo trees. The two diagonal roads spread out to either side like the arms of a compass.
Along Daigaku-dori, the green campus of Hitotsubashi University occupies large blocks on both sides of the avenue. Further south the land drops toward the Tama River, and the planned streets give way to older, more irregular lanes, farm plots and the wide riverbank.
A Kunitachi map poster shows a rare case in greater Tokyo where the layout of a town was deliberately designed rather than grown over time. The name itself combines characters from the two neighbouring stations, Kokubunji and Tachikawa.
The broad avenue runs south from the station in a perfectly straight line. It is the axis of the whole town, and its tree-lined sides are famous in spring.
Two diagonal roads branch off symmetrically from the station square. Together with the central avenue they give the map a clear, fan-shaped structure.
In the south, the grid loosens as it descends to the Tama River. Open riverbanks and older lanes replace the planned geometry.

Koteā ko Kunitachi
Kunitachi appeals to Hitotsubashi alumni, to people who have lived in western Tokyo, and to anyone who likes planned towns. Its fan-shaped layout makes a clean and balanced composition.
You can add a graduation year or another date to the coordinates line, write your own title and subtitle, and choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. It is available as a digital file or a printed poster.
