Te mapa
Kunming sits at around 1,900 metres on the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, beside Dian Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the province. The city spreads north and east from the lakeshore, and on the map the water fills the southwest as a broad, elongated shape, with the Western Hills climbing sharply along its opposite bank.
Its mild weather throughout the year gave Kunming the name Spring City. Near the centre, Green Lake Park forms a small, intricate pattern of ponds, causeways and islands close to Yunnan University, and in winter it is known for the black-headed gulls that gather there. The older streets around it are dense and irregular, while newer districts follow wider grids.
Kunming is the capital of Yunnan and a gateway to the province's mountains and to Southeast Asia. A Kunming map poster frames the relationship between city and lake, with the ring roads, the long lakeshore and the contoured edge of the hills giving the composition depth and a clear sense of place.

Steep, forested slopes rising directly from the western shore of the lake, where roads and paths switch back up toward temples and viewpoints over the water.
A small lake in the old centre divided by causeways and bridges into several ponds, a delicate, detailed shape surrounded by the city's older streets.
