Te mapa
KwaDukuza lies on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal, roughly seventy kilometres from Durban. The town centre sits a little inland, with the N2 and the coastal roads running parallel to the shore. Much of the land between them is planted with sugarcane. On a map the fields read as broad open patches, crossed by farm roads and the curves of small rivers heading to the sea.
For much of the twentieth century the town was called Stanger, and it took back its Zulu name in 2006. KwaDukuza was the site of King Shaka's royal settlement, and he was killed and buried here in 1828. A memorial marks his grave near the centre. It is a small green space within the grid, but it holds one of the most significant places in Zulu history.
Nearby Groutville was the home of Albert Luthuli, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1960. Toward the coast, beaches such as Blythedale and the resort town of Ballito extend the area along the shore. A KwaDukuza map poster can show both sides of the town: the inland grid with its history, and the green cane country sloping down to the sea.

Sugarcane covers much of the land around the town. It shows on the map as wide open areas crossed by farm tracks and bordered by the lines of roads.
Roads lead east from the town to the Indian Ocean shoreline at Blythedale and further south toward Ballito, linking the inland centre to the beaches.

KwaDukuza means a great deal to people with roots in the north coast, from families who have farmed cane for generations to anyone who knows the Shaka memorial. A map of the town is a calm, graphic way to keep that connection visible.
