Lake Ridge is a planned community in eastern Prince William County, Virginia, built mainly from the 1970s onwards. It sits on high ground above the Occoquan Reservoir. Its street plan is typical of American suburbs of that era: looping collector roads, curving residential streets and many cul-de-sacs, all set among patches of woodland. From above, it looks organic and branching rather than gridded.
The reservoir forms the community's northern edge, with a long, irregular shoreline cut by coves and inlets. The old town of Occoquan lies nearby to the east, where the river runs towards the Potomac. Interstate 95 passes to the south-east. Neighbourhood parks, paths and a marina connect residents to the water.
