Te mapa
Laojunmiao lies in the Hexi Corridor of Gansu province, in China's far north-west. It grew around the Yumen oilfield, one of the earliest modern oilfields in the country, which was developed in the late 1930s, and for decades it was the administrative centre of Yumen. The setting is arid: gravel plains and desert stretch in every direction, with the Qilian Mountains rising to the south.
From above, the town is a compact grid on sloping ground, with industrial zones and access roads reaching out towards the oil installations. Beyond the built-up area the landscape has few features. Dry channels, gravel fans spreading from the mountains and long straight roads crossing the plain are nearly all there is. The contrast between the dense town and the empty land around it is striking.
A Laojunmiao map poster is an unusual piece: a portrait of a place built for industry in a remote desert landscape. The clean street lines and the open emptiness around them make a spare, graphic composition. It means most to oil workers and families who lived here, and to anyone who knows the quiet scale of western China.
Service roads lead from the town towards the oil installations, drawing long lines across the landscape that record why the settlement exists.
The town is a regular grid of streets on gently sloping ground at the foot of the mountains, forming a dense, clearly bounded block on the map.
Around the town, gravel plains and dry channels fill the frame with sparse, fine lines, giving the poster a quiet, open character unlike a crowded city map.

Koteā ko Laojunmiao
For those who spent part of their lives here in the oil industry, far from larger cities, Laojunmiao stays vivid. A map of the town brings the place back in a simple, respectful form and makes a meaningful gift for former residents.
