Łapy lies in the Podlasie region of northeastern Poland, on the Narew River southwest of Białystok. The town developed largely thanks to the railway, and the tracks and railway works remain central to its layout, dividing the town into distinct parts.
The Narew's wide, marshy valley runs close to the town, with meadows, oxbows and wetlands forming a landscape that is characteristic of the region. From above, the river's winding channels contrast with the straighter lines of the rail lines and streets.
