Te mapa
Laurel grew up in the late nineteenth century as a lumber and railroad town in the Piney Woods of south-east Mississippi, and its map still shows that origin. The rail lines cut through the city, and the downtown grid was laid out alongside them. Around the centre, tree-lined residential avenues spread out, many of them lined with houses built during the timber boom.
In recent years the town has become widely known through the television series Home Town, in which Ben and Erin Napier restore houses in Laurel. It is also home to the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, Mississippi's first art museum. Interstate 59 passes along the city, and creeks wind through its neighbourhoods and the wooded land around them.
A Laurel map poster presents all of this in careful linework: the straight downtown blocks beside the tracks, the gentler curves of the older neighbourhoods, the interstate and the streams. It is a map of a small Southern city that many people now recognise, whether they grew up there or first saw it on screen.

Residential avenues near downtown, lined with older homes from the timber era, spread out in a calm pattern of long blocks and gentle curves.
The interstate passes along the city, its broad lines and interchanges framing the town's older street network with a stronger, modern stroke.

Laurel has a real sense of home, and a map of it suits a front room, a newly restored house or a gift for someone who has just moved to Jones County. It is also a thoughtful keepsake for visitors who came because of the television series.
