Te mapa
Librazhd lies in eastern Albania, in the valley of the Shkumbin river between Elbasan and the Ohrid region. The mountains are close on both sides, and the valley floor is narrow, so the town has had to grow lengthwise. On a map it forms an elongated strip, with the river on one side, the main road beside it and houses pressed between them and the slopes.
The Shkumbin valley has long served as a route across the Balkans. In Roman times the Via Egnatia, linking the Adriatic coast with Byzantium, ran through this part of Albania along the river's course. A Librazhd map poster traces the modern version of that corridor, with road and river running side by side through the heart of town.
Beyond the town the terrain rises into forested mountains, and the Shebenik-Jabllanicë National Park lies to the east near the border with North Macedonia. Side valleys branch off the Shkumbin, each with its own thin road climbing toward villages above. In print, the steep country shows as open space around the valley, and the town's long, narrow shape stands out as the one line of settlement.
The river runs the length of the valley and sets the town's orientation. Its channel and gravel banks give the map a strong, flowing spine.
The valley carried the Roman Via Egnatia across the mountains, and today's main road still follows it, running through Librazhd parallel to the river.
Steep, wooded slopes close in on both sides and extend toward Shebenik-Jabllanicë National Park, leaving the town as a long, slim ribbon on the poster.

Koteā ko Librazhd
For Albanians abroad and for travellers who have crossed the country from coast to lake, Librazhd is a place tied to the road between them. A map of its valley holds that memory, a clear line through the mountains.
